Now called the “Williamsburg Hall of Music,” this 9000 square foot music venue and rehearsal facility has become a destination for the independent music scene. As an adaptive reuse of a former mayonnaise factory the loading dock became the parlor bar. Working with a small budget the strategy was to create an acoustically balanced space with multiple viewing areas for more than 500 occupants. Durable maintenance free surfaces like sanded cement board became the wall finish and industrial high hazard lighting was installed throughout. Removal of a steel framed storage floor created a double high performance space, and the coal storage basement was modified into a second performance and bar area.
