The Press Club Grill adapts a two-story dining space within the Martinique Hotel, drawing on the cultural and architectural language of mid-century New York. Inspired by the neighborhood’s legacy as a center of publishing and journalism, the design establishes an interior that balances historical reference with contemporary use.
The ground floor is anchored by red velvet banquettes, a brass bar, and a floor-to-ceiling wine turret, with vintage barware integrated throughout. Custom lighting and hand-wrought iron create continuity across the space, while a large-scale mural introduces a narrative layer, referencing the city and its media history. Above, a mezzanine overlooks the room below, with a private dining room that carries a more intimate, slightly clandestine character. The result is a restaurant shaped by material, history, and spatial hierarchy.
