This rear yard small wood frame structure is an anomaly from past city zoning that allows this for an expansive yard sheltered from the street by the car park. The client couple’s profession (a writer and a film editor) are both creative but are greatly different in execution. The new live/work design adds a four story addition on to the small wood house. Significant excavation daylights the cellar space. The writer can retreat to the new penthouse office and roof garden while the film editor has the dark cellar ideal for mixing rooms, edit rooms and a day-lit office. They live together with their family in the middle 3 floors.
